Image quality is consistently good. Auto focus is very fast and even in autoeverything mode the camera works well. The rugged construction makes it feel heavy in comparison to a compact, but it is the reassuring bulk of durability and quality.
The absence of an accessible knob to move from automatic into P, A, S or M mode (it is done through the menu) is annoying for anyone who wants to exercise user control. This is definitely a pointandshoot camera

High-resolution screen. Compact, lightweight configuration. Fast autofocusing and response times. Good video quality
No ability to use an external viewfinder. Controls are hidden away in the touchscreen and menus. RAW files contain much more usable detail than JPEGs
As an entry point to the world of ILCs, the Lumix GF5 is a nifty little performer. Just don't expect to be able to make the most of its manual controls in a timely fashion....
